Camille Adair and her film partner, Grant Taylor discuss their new full-length documentary film, SOLACE: Wisdom of the Dying, which recently screened in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Camille and Grant worked on this labor of love and vision that was born from Camille’s personal and professional journey as a hospice nurse, where she explored the powerful issues that surround dying for patients and their loved one’s as well as her own dark night of the soul that led her to interview experts and mentors such as Stephen Levine, Ondrea Levine, Barbara Dossey, Larry Dossey and Joan Halifax. She also interviewed friends and colleagues and authors who work in the hospice community. The highlights of the movie come from the patients and families themselves, who have generously opened up their living and dying for this project in hope of raising awareness around the sacred end of life experience.

Grant Taylor brings his sensitivity and artistry to the film as the director of photography and editor. Grant shares his experiences related to living and dying as a result of being at the bedside of dying people and of accompanying Camille in the exploration of the subject matter through the editing process.

“Finally a documentary that addresses the actual experience of death and dying! It’s about time that we began having this conversation. Solace brings us so gently into the lives of people willing to share their thoughts and feelings–not only about death, but about their own passing–leaving us profoundly grateful for their wisdom, vulnerability and inspiration. Beautifully crafted, lyrical and uplifting, this film is a must for anyone who wants to begin the most important conversation of their lives.”
